We have all had moments when we've compared ourselves to others. Maggie feels embarrassed when
she doesn't have anything exciting to share with her classmates at tomorrow's show-and-tell until she
goes home and realizes she has the best thing of all! Through the love of an injured dog, Maggie and
the Summer Vacation Show-and-Tell teaches children that simple pleasures are so much more rewarding
than material things or experiences. The discussion guide at the end of the story is a great springboard for
parents and teachers, as well as author, Randi Lynn Mrvos's inspiration for the story.

Maggie and the Summer Vacation Show-and-Tell is a delightful book with charming illustrations!
Children will easily identify with Maggie's problem and how she works to find a solution. I especially
liked the discussion guide in the book and enjoyed the page that provided the inspiration behind the story.
I plan on purchasing more of these books for gifts.

I loved Randi Mrvos new book “Maggie and the Summer Vacation Show-and-Tell. The story
drew me in right away. Mrvos can say a lot with a sentence. I enjoy children’s books that have
a surprise and touch my heart. This book did both…just perfect. A. McLaughlin

I just read this, from an adult's point of view, as my child is grown, but wow, it touches on so
many topics that are so relevant for kids. The first one that struck me is fitting in. Maggie wants
to fit in, and while other kids are excited to share something, she has that first impulse to
compete or so it seems. Then in a family discussion, that shows us how important family time is,
she is reminded of what is important, not only to her, but in life. She has something to share that
is from the heart. Even at this point in the book, good life lessons are touched upon. Peer pressure,
competition, talking to your family, having support from your family, and knowing in your heart
that you want to share something that made you feel good, with others. The book has great characters,
role models, and truth. The pictures add to the words perfectly and you want to spend time really
looking at them, rather than rushing to finishing reading. There is also of course a great lesson on
the rewards of animal rescue to use to educate a child. I recommend this book for any child who
would enjoy a picture book with a heart warming story.

In this sweet story, Maggie does not know what to bring when her teacher plans a “Summer vacation
show-and-tell.” Some of Maggie’s friends have exciting tales to tell about their summer travels, and
interesting souvenirs to show to the class. These souvenirs range from the more traditional (postcards)
to the more exotic (poison dart frog). But Maggie’s family didn’t go on a trip and she thinks she has
nothing to share.
The depth of Maggie’s emotions about the upcoming show-and-tell is evident in both the text and
illustrations. While her friends are drawing pictures of the things they plan to bring, Maggie draws
“a big fat zero.” In the accompanying picture, her eyes are downcast, her face is flooded with sadness.
Contrasted with Maggie’s misery when she thinks about show-and-tell is her joy when she is with her
dog, Trooper. When her beloved pet kisses her cheek later in the evening, Maggie’s giggles almost
jump off the page!

Maggie and the Summer Vacation Show-and-Tell is a wonderfully-written picture book. My little one
saw the cover and begged to read it with me. She was very engaged as we read, telling Maggie what
she should and should not do, expressing affection in response to pictures of Trooper, and exclaiming
her surprise at certain points in the book.
